Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Pageful handles information when you use the Pageful iOS app, its book-search service, and this website.

Pageful is operated by Max Maximovich, referred to as "we", "us", or "our" in this policy. For privacy questions and requests, contact privacy@hromers.com. For help with the app, contact hello@hromers.com.

Pageful at a glance

Pageful helps you organize books, save reading progress, rate books, and look back on your reading calendar. You do not need to create a Pageful account or provide your name or email address to use the app.

Your library and reading sessions are stored on your device. The app supports synchronization through your private Apple iCloud account when iCloud is available. Our book-search backend does not receive a copy of your library or reading-session history.

Some features communicate with external services. These include book search and cover downloads, purchases, iCloud synchronization, and product analytics. The sections below explain those connections.

Your library and reading history

The app stores information you add or change, including book titles and authors, book details and covers, reading status, page counts and progress, ratings, reading dates, and reading sessions.

This information is stored locally using Apple's app storage. When iCloud synchronization is available, it can also be stored in your private CloudKit database and synchronized between compatible devices using your Apple account. Apple handles that storage under its own privacy terms. We do not operate a separate account database containing your reading history.

Deleting a book in Pageful also deletes its associated reading sessions. Changes may synchronize through iCloud. Removing the app does not necessarily remove information already stored in iCloud or device backups. You can manage supported iCloud storage and backup options through your Apple account and device settings.

Book searches and images

When you search for a book, the text you enter is sent to Pageful's search service, hosted on Cloudflare. Searches can contain a title, author, ISBN, or another search phrase. Avoid entering information you do not want processed as part of a search.

The service forwards searches to ISBNdb unless a result can be served from the existing catalog or cache. ISBNdb receives the search phrase to return book information. Search responses may be cached for 60 seconds. Search text appears in the request URL and may be processed in infrastructure request metadata.

Cloudflare processes network information, including your IP address, to deliver requests and enforce search rate limits. The backend uses IP-based rate limiting without requiring a Pageful account.

Book covers and related catalog images may be downloaded from Pageful's Cloudflare storage or external image hosts named in a book result. Those hosts receive the requested image URL and the network information needed to return it, such as an IP address. The app also caches downloaded images on your device.

Purchases

Pageful offers a one-time Pageful Unlimited purchase through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment details. We do not receive your full payment-card number.

We use RevenueCat to check purchase and entitlement status and restore eligible purchases. RevenueCat may process a generated app user identifier, product and transaction information, purchase history, entitlement status, and related device or app information. No separate Pageful login is required.

Deleting the app or removing reading data does not erase Apple's transaction records or automatically remove purchase information that must be retained. Eligible purchases can be restored using the Apple account associated with the purchase.

App analytics

We use PostHog US Cloud to understand how Pageful is used and where the experience needs improvement. The app sends a generated analytics identifier and events such as:

  • App launches, onboarding steps, and onboarding completion
  • Search success or failure, result counts, search length, and response time
  • Adding or removing a book, library size, status changes, and rating values
  • Saving, editing, or deleting a reading session, pages logged, and whether the session completes a book
  • Library and calendar tab selection
  • Viewing an upgrade offer, starting a purchase, and purchase or restore outcomes

These events may include app version, operating-system version, device information, timestamps, and approximate location derived from network information. A generated identifier can connect activity from the same app installation even though it does not contain your name or email address. We do not treat that data as incapable of identifying or distinguishing a device.

Our app analytics events do not include book titles, authors, ISBNs, book identifiers, raw search text, or the text of support emails. Session replay and automatic screen and button capture are disabled. We do not record a video of your screen or use PostHog to read other apps.

Website information

The website serves information about Pageful and this policy. It does not require an account or provide a form for uploading your library.

Website hosting providers process request information, such as IP addresses, requested URLs, browser information, and timestamps, to deliver and secure the site.

We use Vercel Web Analytics when enabled for the website to understand page visits, referrals, device and browser categories, and approximate visitor location. Vercel describes this service as cookie-free analytics. We do not add advertising cookies or use it to collect your reading library. Your light or dark theme preference may be stored in your browser's local storage.

Support messages

If you contact us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. We use that information to answer your request and resolve problems. Please avoid sending sensitive information unless it is needed for your request.

Why we process information

We use information to provide requested app features, return search results, synchronize reading data through Apple, verify Unlimited access, restore purchases, answer support requests, understand product usage, prevent abuse, and maintain reliable services.

Where European or UK data-protection law applies, our legal bases include performing our agreement with you for requested services, our legitimate interests in maintaining and improving Pageful and protecting it from abuse, and compliance with applicable legal obligations. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests by contacting us. Additional local requirements may apply to particular processing activities.

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your reading library to build advertising profiles.

Services that process information

We use the following providers for the purposes described in this policy:

We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to address fraud, security issues, or legal claims. If Pageful changes ownership, relevant information may transfer with the service, subject to applicable law and the privacy protections that apply to it.

Retention and deletion

Your local library stays on your device until you change or remove it. iCloud copies and backups follow your Apple account settings and Apple's storage processes.

The search service uses a short-lived response cache, rather than a personal search-history account. Infrastructure providers may retain request or security records separately from that cache.

We retain analytics and support information for as long as reasonably needed to understand product use, resolve requests, maintain security, and meet legal obligations. The criteria include whether records are still useful for those purposes, whether a request is unresolved, and whether legal retention or dispute-resolution requirements apply. Purchase records may need to be retained to preserve your access and comply with applicable obligations.

You can request deletion of information we hold by emailing privacy@hromers.com. We may need information to locate the records and verify your request. Because Pageful has no login connecting your email address to its generated analytics and purchase identifiers, we may not be able to locate particular records from an email address alone. Information held independently by Apple or another provider may also require a request to that provider.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict processing, or object to certain uses. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. These rights can be subject to legal exceptions.

Contact privacy@hromers.com to make a request. We will respond as required by applicable law. You can also manage your iCloud settings, remove books and sessions in the app, and control website local storage through your browser settings.

International processing and security

Information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States through PostHog and other service providers. Data-protection laws may differ between countries. Transfers are subject to the safeguards required by applicable law and the terms of the providers involved.

We use reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted network connections and keeping provider credentials on the server where appropriate. No service can guarantee complete security.

Children's privacy

Pageful is a general-audience reading tracker and is not directed specifically at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact privacy@hromers.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Pageful changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. We will provide any additional notice required by applicable law for material changes.
